Population Genetics of P. falciparum in West Africa
This project has involved studying the population genomics of malaria parasites in Mali, to compare the signatures of selection in the parasite genome with patterns seen elsewhere in West Africa. The work was supported by an ERC Advanced Grant on ‘Parasite population genomics and functional studies towards development of a blood stage malaria vaccine’, and some analyses of the data are reported already: Duffy, C.W. et al. (2018) Multi-population genomic analysis of malaria parasites indicates local selection and differentiation at the gdv1 locus regulating sexual development.
